Treatments explained
The kinds of appointment#
Fill this in: replace each card below with a real category of what you do. Keep the chips to what a patient chooses on — how long, and whether it is routine or planned.
Each treatment#
Fill this in: a common treatment
What it is for, what happens step by step, how long it takes, what it feels like, and how many visits it needs. Then the alternatives, including doing nothing, and what each one means over time.
Fill this in: a second common treatment
The same shape. Patients compare, so keeping the shape identical between entries is what makes the page usable.
Fill this in: something patients are often anxious about
Describe it in more detail rather than less. Anxiety is usually about not knowing what will happen, and a specific description helps more than reassurance does.
Fill this in: something that is often misunderstood
The treatment people ask for by the wrong name, or expect the wrong result from. Correcting it here saves a difficult conversation in the room.
Anaesthetic and sedation#
Fill this in: what is offered, what each option involves, whether somebody has to drive you home, and how long the effects last. The driving question changes a patient's whole day and is easy to leave out.
How we decide what to recommend#
We tell you what we found, what the options are, and what we would suggest and why. You decide. If you want time, take it — very little is more urgent than it sounds, and we will tell you plainly when something genuinely is.
Second opinions#
A second opinion is a completely reasonable thing to want, and asking for one does not offend anybody here. We will give you your records to take with you — see Your records and privacy.
